Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin is currently collecting payments for the first half 2014 General Taxes and reminding taxpayers that the payment deadline of February 10th is approaching. Clavin has instituted a number of conveniences for his office including extended hours, two satellite offices, a mobile tax office, drive-through payment windows and the option to pay online.
“I am committed to serving the taxpayers of Hempstead Town in every way that I can,” stated Clavin. “To that end, my office strives to accommodate our customers’ needs by providing alternate payment sites, payment options and expanded hours.”
During peak collection times, hours of operation at the main tax office located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead will be extended, covering the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (February 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10). From the comfort of their car, taxpayers may make payments in person at the drive-through windows located behind the main tax office (follow the signs on the corner of North Franklin and Bedell Streets). Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10, check and money order payments will be accepted.
Satellite offices at Rock Hall Museum (199 Broadway, Lawrence) and Levittown Hall (201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville) serve communities that are more remote from Town Hall. Satellites offices will be open to receive checks and money orders for tax payments from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10.
The Mobile Tax Office is scheduled to visit the following locations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.:
February 3 - Elmont Memorial Library, 700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont
February 4 - Town Parking Lot O-3, Davison Ave., Oceanside (directly across from Oceanside Library)
February 6 - Merrick Senior Center, 2550 Clubhouse Rd., Merrick
February 7 - Franklin Square Senior Center, 1182 Martha Pl., Franklin Square
Tax payments can also be made online via credit card or e-check by logging onto the town’s website at www.TOH.LI. Follow the "Receiver of Taxes” linkto“Online Tax Payments,” or call Official Payments Corporation at 1-877-306-6056. A 2.5 % convenience fee for credit card transactions will be incurred, while a flat fee of $2 will be charged for electronic check payments. Hempstead Town receives no portion of these fees, which are charged by the company that processes the transactions.
“From supplying taxpayers with beneficial information that may help them reduce their tax burden to providing the highest level of service to our constituents, Supervisor Kate Murray and I are making government work for the people,” concluded Clavin.
