Lacrosse Academy On the Ball and On-Line in 10th Anniversary Season

The Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy is about to face-off on its 10th Anniversary season as one of Long Island’s top instructional programs. “Offering weekly clinics, plus one-on-one and small group lessons, the academy offers youngsters ages 5 to 15, an affordable and enjoyable lacrosse experience,” commented Supervisor Kate Murray.

“From day one, the lacrosse academy has teamed fundamentals and fun in an effort to improve skills and build confidence.   With record-breaking attendance figures every year for a decade now, the game-plan seems to be working!”

This year the Lacrosse Academy is improving its game by putting on-line registration into play.  To register in advance for any of the lacrosse academy’s weekly clinics, simply log-on to toh.li/lacrosse-academy and fill out the application form. On-line registration will secure a spot in a clinic of choice. Once the application is completed on-line there will be a seven day period to submit payment to TOH Lacrosse Academy, 200 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, New York 11550.

Nearly 1,500 youngsters graduated with honors from last summer’s Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy and a championship caliber staff of renowned coaches and outstanding players are ready to impart expert instruction on lacrosse fundamentals and strategies.

Again this summer, the Lacrosse Academy will host two-hour morning instruction for 5 and 6 year-olds in partnership with the traditional three-hour clinics for youngsters 7 to 15 years of age.  The clinics for 5 and 6 year-olds run from 9:30-11:30 a.m.  The sessions for ages 7 to 15 are set from 9 a.m. to noon. Evening sessions from 6 to 9 p.m. will be open to youngsters from 6 to 15 years of age.

Weekly clinics, running from Monday to Thursday, will begin on Monday,

June 23. If openings remain there will be walk-up registrations before the first clinic of each week.  Check with the lacrosse office (516-783-3208) or the town web site (toh.li) to determine clinic availability. Discounts are available for any family that registers more than one child for the same week.

Two-hour clinics for ages 5 & 6 are priced at $60 per child, the three-hour clinics and the position clinics are priced at $70 per youngster. There is a reduced rate of $50 for additional family members at both the three-hour and two-hour clinics. Lacrosse Academy programs are offered to Town of Hempstead residents ONLY.  All payments must be made in the form of check or money order payable to the Town of Hempstead.

The Lacrosse Academy will also conduct one-on-one instruction, for youngsters from ages 5 to 15.  An hour in length, the one-on-one training will be geared to the specific participant and his or her respective skill level.

The one-on-one training will benefit the novice player, as well as the highly skilled youngster.   Training can also be detailed to cover a specific position (including goalie) and the position’s necessary skill sets. Rates for the one-on-one training are set at $35 per hour with a special $90 fee for a series of three lessons.  There is a special $25 per hour rate for youngsters who register with a group of three or more. Sessions can be scheduled from Monday to Friday at a town park of the player’s choosing.  The hours are flexible and appointments are required in advance by calling the academy office at 516-783-3208.

In addition to on-line registration, completed registration applications, with appropriate payment, will be accepted by mail or in-person.  Mail completed applications to the: Town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation, Attn: Lacrosse Academy, 200 North Franklin Street, Hempstead, NY, 11550.  Registration applications can be accessed from the town’s web site at toh.li/activities/lacrosse-academy.  Applications will also be accepted at the Parks Department Building from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
