Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray has announced that members of the town’s Creative Writers’ Workshop will be holding a reading of their original works on Wednesday, June 11th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts.
“The senior residents who have participated in the Creative Writers’ Workshop will be sharing their compositions with the community during this presentation,” said Murray. “The life experiences, imaginations and emotions of workshop participants have served to inspire the writers to compile these short stories, poems and memoirs.”
The public is invited to attend this free event which will be held at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts, located at 2222 Hewlett Avenue in Merrick. An informal coffee hour will follow the forum.
“The Creative Writers’ Workshop has inspired many artistic seniors to fulfill a lifelong ambition to write over the past 26 years,” said Councilwoman Angie Cullin. “We look forward to publishing an annual journal of these original works entitled Musings of Maturity XXVI later this year.”
“I urge friends, family and area residents to attend the June 11th presentation and show their support to our senior writers,” concluded Murray.
Senior residents who aspire to write and develop their artistic abilities are invited to join the group, which meets for the 16-week workshop on Wednesdays at the Merrick Senior Center. The Creative Writers’ Workshop is partially funded through a grant from Poets and Writers, Inc.
