Town Continues to Support Sandy Victims; Extends Fee Waiver on Building Permits, Town Clerk Replacement Documents

To help residents still recovering and rebuilding since Superstorm Sandy, Supervisor Kate Murray and the Town of Hempstead today extended fee waivers for town Building Department permits for Sandy-related reconstruction and repair and for the replacement of marriage licenses and other documents furnished by the Office of the Town Clerk. The fee waivers – which have been in effect since November 2012 – have been extended through September 30, 2014.

“The Town of Hempstead is committed to helping neighbors rebuild their homes and their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy,” stated Murray. “We are proud to once again extend the fee waiver on Building Department rebuilding and reconstruction permits, as well as for replacement of Town Clerk documents, for Sandy victims.”

Specifically, fees will be waived for town Building Department permits for “in-kind” reconstruction and replacement of homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy (in unincorporated areas of the town). Residents of incorporated villages should check requirements of their local villages.

In the Office of the Town Clerk, residents who lost important documents during Hurricane Sandy – such as birth certificates and passports – will not have to pay the town fees for replacement copies.
