Lacrosse Academy Adds All Stars To Galaxy of Summer Clinics

Over 1,400 youngsters graduated with honors from last summer's Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy. With a championship caliber faculty, comprised of respected high school coaches and outstanding college players, the academy offers expert instruction on lacrosse fundamentals and strategies. "Young lacrosse students from ages 6 to 15 will improve their skill level and increase their enjoyment by working together with staff members and other players," commented Supervisor Kate Murray.

The academy's "goal" for 2011 is to offer youngsters a great summer of lacrosse instruction. This year the lacrosse academy has lowered the eligibility age to 6, with an age limit of 15. Weekly clinics begin on Monday, June 20 and continue through August 4th. Clinics run from Monday to Thursday each week (the Oceanside Park clinic meets from Tuesday to Friday). This year the lacrosse academy will present six weekly clinics, three during the day and three at night.

This summer the Lacrosse Academy will introduce a new All Star Position Clinic for older youngsters (ages 10 to 15), featuring intensive instruction for experienced players ONLY. Participants must have at least 3 years experience in organized leagues. Fast paced, highly specialized instruction will challenge each player to realize his or her potential. The All Star Clinic will focus on individual lacrosse positions (including goalie), with specific and strategic drills to further develop skills and instincts.

"We've actually had a number of youngsters grow up through our lacrosse program and many have reached an age range and a talent level that warrants more specialized instruction for experienced players," continued Supervisor Murray. "The new All Star clinics were introduced to attract the highly skilled player who wants the best possible instruction in anticipation of playing with a travel or high school team."

Clinics (both Regular and All Star) are open to Town of Hempstead youngsters ONLY, with a registration fee of $60 per student and a discount rate of $45 for additional family members. All payments must be made in the form of check or money order payable to the Town of Hempstead.

If openings remain, registrations will be accepted at the scheduled park prior to the first session of each clinic. For additional information on the town's lacrosse program call the Academy Office at (516) 783-3208 or (516) 783-3205.
