Give the Gift of Love This Holiday Season: Hempstead Town Offers Free Pet Adoptions

As you prepare to shop for the holiday season, consider adding the gift of love to the wish list. Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the entire Town Board invite you to visit the Animal Shelter between November 12th and January 15th during the Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Program.

During this special period, all pet adoption fees will be waived, making it the opportune time to welcome a cuddly cat or dog into your home.

"Spread holiday cheer by giving a cuddly cat or dog the present of a lifetime . . . a loving home," Murray said. "When you adopt a pet from our shelter, through January 15th, you can give the gift of love for free."

"We invite you to visit our animal shelter during Home for the Holidays," Councilwoman Angie Cullin said. "Welcome a new loving pet to your home for free."

During the Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Program, the shelter is offering free rabies vaccinations, as well as free spaying and neutering services. Also, all adoptions during the promotion period include microchipping, free of charge. The popular microchipping program places a safe implant in your cat or dog to help lost pets reunite with their owners.

But the free offers do not stop there. As a thank you for finding a new home for a loving animal during the Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Program, adopted pets will also receive a free gift, donated by our generous sponsors: IAMS, Manetto Hill Animal Hospital and Jo-Mar Grooming. Specifically, giveaways will be provided by IAMS, and coupons will be available for a free exam and dental kit at Manetto Hill and a free grooming session at Jo-Mar.

Before heading down to the facility, you can take a sneak peek at the shelter's precious pets by visiting the Petfinder link on the town's website. To get there, visit and use the Petfinder link on the animal shelter web page.

Visit the shelter, located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh, Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For more information, call the shelter at (516) 785-5220.

"Come to our Animal Shelter and bring a new furry friend home to your family," Murray said. "Give the gift of love this holiday season."
