Supervisor Kate Murray invites you to Town Hall Plaza on Tuesday, December 6th at 4 p.m. to celebrate the holiday season with the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree, Hanukkah Menorah and Kwanzaa Kinara.
A star-studded group of celebrity guests will be highlighted by a special visit from the North Pole. Santa Claus, whose sleigh and fleet of reindeer are in preparation for the holiday, will still be riding in style. Thanks to the Hempstead Fire Department, Santa will be ushered into Town Hall Plaza in a special antique fire truck. The other celebrity guest, hailing from right here on Long Island, is WKJY's Lucky the Duck.
"We are excited to ring in the holiday season with members of the Hempstead Town family," Supervisor Murray said. "It is a wonderful time of year to reflect on our blessings and our family, while seeing the tremendous generosity that is all around us."
Symbolizing the season of giving this year is CSEA Local 880, which has partnered with the Salvation Army to sponsor its annual Angel Tree donation drive in an effort to help the less fortunate during the holidays. Those attending the lighting ceremony will have an opportunity to donate an unwrapped toy toward the cause.
Adding to the seasonal cheer will be an appearance by the Jackson Main Elementary School Chorus, which will perform various holiday favorites.
"Join us on Tuesday, December 6th at Town Hall for a celebratory afternoon for people of all ages," Murray said. "I wish everyone a happy, healthy and enjoyable holiday season filled with love and joy."
Should weather be an issue on the day of the event, the ceremony will be moved indoors, inside the Town Hall Lobby. Hempstead Town Hall is located on One Washington Street in Hempstead Village, between Peninsula Blvd. and Front Street.
