The Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy, considered one of Long Island’s top instructional programs, will up its game this summer with more age-specific training and a new one-on-one program. Supervisor Kate Murray unveiled the expanded lacrosse program and emphasized the academy’s game plan to teach more players and personalize the summer instruction.
Over 1,400 youngsters graduated with honors from last summer’s Town of Hempstead Lacrosse Academy. With a championship-caliber faculty, comprised of respected college and high school coaches along with outstanding college players, the academy offers expert instruction on lacrosse fundamentals and strategies.
“Since its creation in 2005, the lacrosse academy has provided expert instruction for boys and girls in an effort to improve skill level and increase fun,” commented Supervisor Kate Murray.
This summer, the Lacrosse Academy will introduce a new two-hour AM instruction for 5 and 6 year-olds. These clinics will be conducted during the academy’s traditional three-hour AM clinics, which are geared for youngsters 7 to 15 years of age. The clinics for 5 and 6 year-olds will go from 9:30-11:30 AM. The sessions for 7 through 15 year-olds go from 9 AM to noon. Evening sessions (6-9 PM) will be open to youngsters from 6 to 15 years of age. All clinics are for both girls and boys.
Weekly clinics begin on Monday, June 18 and sessions run from Monday to Thursday, except at Oceanside Park (July 2 to 6), where the program runs through Friday with a day off for the July 4th holiday.
This summer, the Lacrosse Academy will host an All-Star Position Clinic, for children ages 10 to 15, featuring intensive instruction for experienced players ONLY. Participants must have at least 3 years experience in organized leagues. Fast-paced, highly specialized instruction will challenge each player to realize his or her potential. The all-star clinic will focus on individual lacrosse positions (including goalie), with specific and strategic drills to further develop skills and instincts.
“We’ve actually had a number of youngsters grow up through our lacrosse program and many have reached an age range and talent level that warrants more specialized instruction for experienced players,” continued Supervisor Murray. “The new all-star clinics were introduced to attract the highly skilled player who wants the best possible instruction in anticipation of playing with a travel or school team.”
Two-hour clinics for ages 5 & 6 are priced at $60 per child, the three-hour clinics and the all-star clinics are priced at $70 per youngster. There is a reduced rate of $50 for additional family members at both the three-hour and two-hour clinics. Lacrosse Academy programs are offered to Town of Hempstead residents ONLY. All payments must be made in the form of check or money order payable to the Town of Hempstead.
This summer, the Lacrosse Academy will introduce one-on-one instruction, open to youngsters from ages 5 to 15. The one hour-long session will be geared to the specific participant and his or her respective skill level.
The personalized training will benefit the novice player, as well as the highly skilled youngster. Training can also be detailed to cover a specific position (including goalie) and the position’s necessary skill sets. Rates for the one-on-one training are set at $35 per hour with a special $90 rate for a set of three lessons. For groups of 2 to 5 children, rates are $25 per child for a one-hour session. All sessions will be held at Speno Park in East Meadow, from Monday to Friday, June 18 through August 2. The hours are flexible and appointments are required in advance, by calling the academy office at 516-783-3208.
For the weekly and position clinics, completed registration applications, with appropriate payment, are accepted by mail or in-person.
