Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes celebrated the grand opening of East Village Green Deli Caterers Inc. in Levittown on April 14, 2012. The deli is now under the ownership of Levittown resident Rich DeSantis, purchasing his dream deli after 40 years in the business.
“Rich DeSantis has been making great sandwiches and meals for his customers for over four decades,” stated Murray. “Now, I am proud to congratulate him upon realizing his dream of owning the East Village Green Deli Caterers Inc.”
“Rich has been a tremendous supporter of the Levittown community for over 40 years,” added Hudes. “Local businesses like this are the backbone of our neighborhood. I wish Rich and his family the best with this exciting new venture.”
DeSantis currently owns four delis and has worked for many years in the business. But, the longtime Levittown resident always had his sights set on this old-fashioned delicatessen. Now that it’s his, DeSantis wants to provide quality products and high-quality customer service to the people he has called neighbors since first moving to Levittown in 1960.
What’s more, DeSantis is decorating the interior with shirts and jackets from Levittown and Island Trees schools, fire departments, ambulance corps and other community groups. Seeking to add some nostalgia to his old-fashioned deli, DeSantis is also trying to find a jacket from the former Levittown Memorial High School.
“Councilman Hudes and I wish the best of luck to Mr. DeSantis and his newly acquired East Village Green Deli Caterers Inc,” concluded Murray. “A Levittown resident growing up to own a business in the same area is a testament to the hard-working, community-oriented attitude of people living in Hempstead Town.
