New Location for CVS Pharmacy Enhances Levittown's Business District; Hempstead Town Paves Way for New Stores, Services in Community

As America’s First Suburb, Levittown has grown from a lovely bedroom community in the shadow of the world’s capital into a vital and dynamic community, replete with a robust business district. Signifying the strength and resiliency of Levittown’s downtown, a new CVS superstore is poised to commence construction alongside a number of other recent commercial development victories and downtown improvements.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes are pleased to announce that ground will break in June on the new CVS at the former HSBC property at 2970 Hempstead Turnpike. Murray, Hudes and the Town Board approved the CVS site plan in December 2011.

The new one-story CVS will offer significantly more space for customers than its current location in the shopping center across the street at 2977 Hempstead Turnpike. Additionally, the new store will provide pharmacy customers with the option to utilize a new drive-thru service window. Furthermore, Murray and Hudes worked with developers on a landscaping plan to enhance curb appeal and beautification efforts in the area.

“I, along with Councilman Gary Hudes, am thrilled that CVS has decided to enhance and expand its business for Levittown residents,” Murray said. “At the same time, the new CVS will revitalize a property after the previous tenants departed. This is a plus for entire Levittown community.”

“Supervisor Murray and I continually work with business and community leaders to find ways to improve our downtowns and business districts,” Hudes said. “Reviving a vacant property with this new CVS will certainly be a boost to the Hempstead Turnpike business district.”

In the second week of June, construction begins on the new one-story, 12,900 square-foot CVS at 2970 Hempstead Turnpike, which is expected to open in early 2013. This positive news comes on the heels of the opening of the Levittown Ford dealership at 3195 Hempstead Turnpike and the upcoming construction of a new Zwanger-Psieri Radiology Clinic at 3235 Hempstead Turnpike. Furthermore, Hempstead Town is in the midst of completing another phase of a streetscape project along Gardiners Avenue. There, workers are installing brick-paved walkways, new concrete, decorative lighting and benches.
