Town of Hempstead residents are invited to take part in free educational tours at the town’s Animal Shelter in Wantagh on Saturday, April 20, 2013. With two sessions – one at 10 a.m. and one at 1 p.m. – neighbors will get an up-close-and-personal look at the daily operations of the shelter, which provides care for animals and helps find loving families for thousands of homeless pets each year.
“We encourage town residents and their children to participate in a free tour at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter,” said Shelter Director Cynthia Iacopella. “We are confident that our neighbors will find it to be a very educational experience, as we will cover everything from kennel tours to volunteer programs.”
Specifically, shelter staff will host a lecture on pet care, the adoption process and detail programs in which residents can directly assist shelter animals. Also, a town Animal Control Officer will be on hand to talk about field work and the ways they care for stray animals. What’s more, the town’s Mobile Vet Clinic will be offering tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition, all visitors who bring treats and/or toys for the shelter animals will be eligible for a door prize. There will also be raffles and baked goods for sale; the proceeds benefit the Tails of Hope Fund, an organization helping to fund extraordinary medical surgeries for dogs and cats.
The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. For more information, call the Shelter at (516) 785-5220 or visit www.toh.li/animal-shelter.
