Town Hall Transforms into Art Gallery for Talented Senior Citizens, Murray Hosts EASEL Meet the Artists Reception

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray encourages residents to visit Hempstead Town Hall’s main lobby to peruse fine creative works by a special group of local artists. This special art gallery display is the highlight of Hempstead Town’s EASEL (Experienced Art Students Enrichment League) program, which boasts a talented group of Hempstead Town’s creative senior citizens.

EASEL’s art gallery will be on display at Hempstead Town Hall from May 6th through May 30th. Murray will help kick-off the opening of the display at a “Meet the Artists” reception, to be held on Tuesday, May 7th from noon to 2 p.m. in the Town Hall lobby.

Many EASEL members have won awards and exhibited works in galleries across the region.

“The EASEL program provides senior citizens with a venue to express and demonstrate their artistic prowess,” Murray said.

EASEL meetings are held every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Oceanside Senior Center, 2900 Rockaway Avenue, Oceanside. Members of the EASEL program enjoy art demonstrations, field trips, workshops, discussions and most importantly, an opportunity for members to meet and work with fellow artists. There is no charge for membership and members are requested to provide their own painting materials.

“EASEL is one of the many popular senior programs offered by Hempstead Town,” Murray said. “I encourage residents to view the outstanding work exhibited by some of our golden-aged residents at Hempstead Town Hall.”
