Hempstead Town’s Child Car Seat Safety Inspection Program will begin its summer community car seat safety inspection schedule announced Supervisor Kate Murray. The town’s Car Seat Inspection Team will visit communities across the township throughout the summer months and provide free car seat safety inspections.
The town's certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect and properly install child car safety seats and educate guardians on their proper installation. State law requires that children under the age of 8 are restrained in an appropriate child restraint system when riding in a motor vehicle.
“Hempstead Town’s certified child passenger safety technicians have received rigorous training and are certified by Safe Kids Worldwide. Technicians will check to be sure that your car and booster seats are properly positioned and correctly installed in your vehicle in order to provide the best protection for your loved ones,” stated Supervisor Kate Murray.
Inspections take place by appointment only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. When registering for the program, guardians will be asked to provide the child’s age, weight, height and model of current car seat in use. Technicians can recommend appropriate car seats, and will check for notices of recalls or possible defects for the current model being used.
“This 30-minute inspection can give parents peace of mind that their child is properly secured in their safety seat while riding in their vehicle. I encourage families to take advantage of this free service and make an appointment today,” concluded Supervisor Murray.
The summer inspection schedule is posted on the town’s website, www.TOH.LI. Appointments are required and may be requested online or scheduled by calling the Town of Hempstead Department of Public Safety at (516) 538-1900, extension 217. Space at each inspection event is limited and appointments are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
