Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes joined the doctors from Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology to celebrate the groundbreaking for their newest facility, in the heart of Levittown.
Once the site of an active Jewish Community Center, the property on Hempstead Turnpike had fallen into disrepair after the building was vacated. The structure was demolished in 2011 and the property remained vacant. Over the years, the community actively speculated about the future of the site.
“The development of this property which has been vacant for so long is worth celebrating,” said Supervisor Murray. “That an innovative and thriving business such as Zwanger-Pesiri has chosen to come to Levittown makes this even better.”
This is the latest in a series of prosperous new developments in the Levittown community. In recent years, several properties in Levittown that had been vacant have been renovated or redeveloped. A new Ford dealership, a new, large CVS and an incoming supermarket are just a few of the business boons that have come to Levittown. Hempstead Town has also enhanced business areas in Levittown with streetscape improvements.
“New, prospering businesses are a benefit to both the neighboring businesses and residents,” said Councilman Hudes. “I am pleased to join the chorus in welcoming Zwanger-Pesiri to this great community.”
As Levittown residents, both Murray and Hudes were proud to welcome the renowned radiology group to the community and helped put shovels in the ground, commencing the much-anticipated construction.
Since the 1950s, Zwanger-Pesiri radiology has provided physicians and patients on Long Island with modern medical diagnostics in a caring and compassionate environment.
Zwanger-Pesiri owners Steven Mendelsohn and Susan Zwanger-Mendelsohn said, “We are very excited to join the Levittown community and to better serve patients in the entire Town of Hempstead.”
“We are proud to welcome the newest Zwanger-Pesiri facility to Hempstead Town,” concluded Supervisor Murray. “We were there several years ago when they opened their Merrick facility, have seen what a benefit it has brought to the local community and look forward to seeing the same positive impact in Levittown.”
